What Can My Community Do?

1. Check out the Thank a Youth Worker Day (TAYWD) website for ideas and resources at www.thankayouthworkerday.org.

2. Ask local government officials (mayor, city council, county council) to proclaim TAYWD locally. (A sample proclamation is available on the website.)

3. Contact local youth-serving networks/agencies to promote TAYWD (Community, government, faith based organizations, etc.)

4. Send a press release to local media outlets, and encourage local media (newspaper, radio, TV if available) to do feature stories on local youth workers.  (A sample press release is on the website.)

5. Host and/or coordinate a community event that celebrates youth workers.

6. Contact area businesses or organizations with large or electronic sign boards with a request to promote TAYWD.

7. Post flyers throughout the community to promote TAYWD.  (See website flyer.)

8. Invite youth-serving and government networks/agencies to post TAYWD on their websites.

9. Enroll parents in the community to create a plan to thank youth workers.

10. Invite local eateries to run specials/discounts on that day for youth workers.
